“Heroes in Healthcare”

For several years our facility has been privileged to participate in the removal of unwanted gang-related tattoos for the California Youth Authority, California Department of Juvenile Justice and other programs. Dr. Tanghetti has been honored with the “Heroes in Healthcare” award for his community service for these tattoo removal programs.

“Brighter Days”

Brighter Days was a program that was conducted by Dr. Tanghetti and in several locations throughout the United States that served and supported individuals being treated for cancer with either chemotherapy or radiation. It is often the case that these life-saving treatments can cause mild to serious side effects on the skin, hair and nails. Dermatologists, whose field of study is specifically directed to such issues, contributed their time once a month in various locations to give personal attention and assistance to those wishing to attend.

During Brighter Days sessions, participants received education on how to manage their skin conditions and received a personal evaluation, which lead to the development of an appropriate skin care plan. These efforts were enhanced through the generosity of vendors who contributed their products to those in attendance. In addition to the benefits mentioned, it is important to note that those who attended Brighter Days often said that being able to interact with others who are in cancer treatment is very comforting and helpful.

It was our mission to maximize the health of their skin, hair and nails during their chemotherapy or radiation treatments. By doing so, we hope that we enhanced their lives through the support of trained, caring professionals, peer support, and knowledge.

Brighter Days was a program, originally developed by Dr. Donald Richey in Chico, California, and expanded to other locations by additional participating Dermatologists.

“New Beginnings”

The Center for Dermatology and Laser Surgery has volunteered in the New Beginnings: Radiation Mark Removal Program, a national philanthropic campaign, coordinated by the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS), offering free radiation mark removal for cancer patients. Read more about Dr. Tanghetti’s work with New Beginnings.
