What Are Dermal Fillers?
An important tool we utilize to restore and rejuvenate the face, dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or perform more substantial facial rejuvenation.* Our experienced staff expertly utilizes dermal fillers to give our patients a natural, refreshed and more youthful appearance.* As we age, we lose bone mass, fat and collagen which can contribute to a more aged appearance. Though there are a variety of products and treatments we offer to address surface changes to the skin due to aging and sun damage, including topical retinoids and laser treatments, these treatments will not address the underlying volume loss in the face. Even plastic surgery procedures, such as facelifts, do not tackle this issue, but dermal fillers can.
The Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Lip Enhancement – Lips lose volume as we age. Additionally, some patients present with asymmetries in their lips that we can correct with fillers. We strive to enhance lips but not make them look overdone.*
Filling Wrinkles and Facial Folds – Wrinkles around the mouth, such as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, respond very well with dermal fillers.*
Replacing Facial Volume – Restoring facial volume to areas such as the cheeks, temples, and under the eyes helps patients achieve a rested, refreshed and youthful look.*
Dermal Filler Types and How They Work
The first and only FDA-approved injectable gel that will instantly add volume to the cheeks.* This gel will give you a slight lift and will restore contour to the face, giving you a more youthful look. This treatment can last up to 2 years in patients 21 and over.* This treatment differs from JUVÉDERM® XC in that it works on a different area of the face. JUVÉDERM® XC will smooth out moderate to severe folds and wrinkles around the mouth and nose, like parentheses.* JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC, on the other hand, addresses the cheek area, adding volume.*
A clear gel of hyaluronic acid (HA) formula, the Restylane family of products are designed to act like the hyaluronic acid that’s naturally produced in the body. This helps to instantly add fullness to your lips and reduce moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles.* Restylane® is for mid-to-deep injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds; it’s also indicated for injection into the lips in patients over the age of 21.
This specialized injectable filler is an excellent choice for lip augmentation and for the correction of perioral wrinkles (fine or deep lines that occur around the mouth and lips) in patients over the age of 21.
Less flexible than Restylane Refyne, Defyne provides the added support needed to treat severe wrinkles and folds. It’s a hyaluronic acid filler specially formulated to smooth moderate-to-severe deep expression lines, known as nasolabial folds and marionette lines in patients over the age of 21.
This Volumizing Filler works instantly so the outcomes are virtually immediate.* When injected, RADIESSE Volumizing Filler will diminish the signs of aging by adding lift and volume.* RADIESSE is unique in its ability to act as scaffolding under the skin, giving you structure and promoting your own natural collagen growth.* Natural collagen continues to produce for multiple months, extending beyond the initial effects of RADIESSE Volumizing Filler.*
Sculptra Aesthetic is a facial injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid. This treatment replaces any lost collagen in patients, correcting any shallow to deep facial folds and wrinkles.* SCULPTRA gives you subtle results over time.* It replaces lost collagen and gives you a more natural-looking appearance, without it looking like you had work done.*

What to Expect During Treatment
Most fillers include lidocaine along with hyaluronic acid to prevent pain. The added anesthetic will alleviate any discomfort you may feel during treatment. Standard procedure times range from 15 minutes to an hour. Cosmetic filler solutions are ideal for improving facial density and rejuvenating skin. Best of all, they can be done to reflect understated, natural results.
How Long Is Recovery Time?
The results for this procedure can be seen immediately after the product is injected, with the exception of Sculptra. Patients can expect some swelling and bruising, lasting from a few days to up to about two weeks with these procedures. We typically recommend a topical anesthetic application prior to the injection of these agents.
